I had to have my power steering hose repaired as merc don't supply the part any more, hey ho. Now its all up and running I had another related issue. I posted seperately on this before.
The tandem pump seems horribly noisy, especially when warned up. The power steering works just fine, the tone of noise does change a little on steering use but nothing extreme. I'm pretty sure that the pump didn't run dry when the hose failed, can't be 100% of cousre but pretty sure.
Are there other reasons the noise would occur ? And if the pump is damaged, will it disintigrate anytime soon do you think ?
The option is to replace the pump, is that a DIY job without a lift ?

Yes the ABC part seesm to working just fine.

Thanks

I would say you have air in the system,,, if the job was done right it should have been bleed but ...And it will cure itself later on .I would run the car for a few days as it is,, it will clear up after air is expelled .

Jack the front of the car up in the air, start the engine and wind the steering full left and right lock several times. This will usually expel any air trapped in the system.

Karl And dont keep it on full lock for more than a few seconds ...I never told you this i would have thought the garage would have gone through this after a PAS repair its the normal thing to do in this case.

I did wonder if it was air but I've driven it a couple of hundered miles and the noise is only getting worse. I'm coming to the conclusion that the pump may have been run dry or at least on air entrained fluid when the pipe burst, the start of all this.

Sounds like you have a problem ..Only noise i had from my pump was on turning only on the dead a head nothing .Loks like you will need to return it to the garage .Have you checked the fluid after repair to see iff its holding it .They will make noise if the pump is empty.

Yes fluid is fine, just the noise. I'm not rushing to repair this right now, the car is back in my garage for winter (more or less) so won't get much use.
