Steering wheel electrical refurbishment

Hello Newbie here,
MB just quoted me £1200 to replace my steering wheel they say it needs replaced.I’m wondering if it can be refurbished and by who? The horn and buttons don’t work. They were but stopped working. Thank you in advance for any help.

Thank you Mark I’ll look at that if there is no way to recover the existing steering wheel.

Just been told our 2017 A180 needs a new steering wheel module by dealer. Orange warning light and buttons on steering wheel not working. . I'm sure it failed in the hot sun. Merc wants £500 plus for replacing it. Went in and they say they'll cover 60%

To add. After weeks parked in the sun 20-30 C started leaving windows down an inch all round (Cheshire Uk) the steering wheel started to make a rubbing noise that got worse. Started using a fold out sun shield before total button failure on steering wheel. Note a warning did come up then a week later buttons failed, seems a connection somewhere started to give out then in total ??. Seems all this plastic has shifted/ gone out of shape/ electrical solder joins maybe not good enough in module. Maybe Mercedes will try use this failed part to get compensation from component manufacturer. Parts not properly tested for use. Cars not very old
