Amps failing in W220’s is unfortunately very common :(

Some people have had them repaired but with very limited results, failing again quite quickly and then having issues with the companies that repaired them.
Second hand ones are available but usually as bad as what you have already.
New amp is the normal fix which is expensive

The amp is in the boot under the CD player.
It’s easy to take them out.
They are both mounted in the same frame/bracket.

If I recall correctly, there is a blade fuse on the amp itself as well.- you may be lucky :)

Check the area for dampness, as that seems to be an issue sometimes (boot seal).

You can pick replacements up on eBay, they are the same on the W215 (and with a bit of trimming of the socket receptacle with a scalpel, you can get a same year CLK amp to fit as long as it is also a ‘Bose’ one).

With regard to the “no magazine” pop the cover off the CD player, you will find the cartridge mechanism keyways are a bit gummed up with the old grease.
Careful cleaning with Q tips and isopropyl alchohol, then fresh tiny amount of a very lightweight silicon grease may resolve it sticking.

if not there’s a bloke on the bay who does refurbed units for £45 :) I’ll try to find the link.

Maybe he hasn’t got one in, but he may refurb yours?

Trace & cure the damp, or it may blow any replacement. Check your boot seal and drains, :)

Get a multimeter and see if there is 12v at the CD supply plug.
If not, check the main cd power supply fuse.

might be worth taking it all out and sit it in a bag of dried rice in a warm place for 24 hrs in case it is damp?
