Hello there

This is my first 'proper' post so be gentle!!

I recently purchased a second hand 2011 C-Class Estate 200 CDI Sport and was hoping to upgrade the stereo (i would like to be able to mirror my phone or have DAB / SAT Nav etc) without spending a fortune.

I emailed a car audio dealer and they have replied that my car has 'audio 20' with buttons underneath and that there is nothing that they can do...

Is this really the case?

I had seen some videos of people replacing the 'top' unit with some cool looking units and thought that this would be a straight forward upgrade (I realise that i may well be wrong)!!

So my question is - can this 'audio 20' be upgraded?

If so, can anyone recommend somewhere that can do this either in the Midlands (Birmingham) or Kent / Sussex? (I spend part of each week in each location)

Thanks!!

James

(PS I have now emailed the 'Command' guys to see what they suggest too)...

Understood!!

Is there a reasonable priced alternative?

I paid under £5k for the car so I’m not looking to spend £000’s

I'd be 95% confident there'll be a Chinese Android unit that will slot in.

What's the chassis designation of a 2011 C-class?

So far I have had several different replies ranging from - can't be done / too expensive to do through to try a Chinese unit and even the potential to have one of these fitted:-

https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/sony-xav-ax1005db-double-din-dab-fm-apple-carplay-radio-bluetooth-ipod-iphone-direct-control.html?tracking=6041feedb9017&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7Z26_cPa9QIVxrTtCh1FsAjlEAAYASAAEgKcLvD_BwE

I am very happen to listen and learn and I have to say that the Sony looks a decent little unit to my untrained eye!!

So my question is has anyone fitted this Sony Unit into a W204 with Audio 20 before and was it worth doing?

Also how much would be a reasonable price to fit something like this?

The unit itself is between £250 and £300 but I'm guessing that the fitting costs are going to be a fair bit...

Hi, I replaced an Audio 20 head unit with an Android unit in my 2009 W204 a few years back. The one I chose looks exactly like the original.

Take a look at www.iceboxauto.com and give them a call - they are very helpful.

The Comand guys will want several million .
Not from my experience. They have done two jobs for me on two cars. One was around a grand and the other under a hundred. I could probably have found cheaper but you get what you pay for and I would never trust the likes of Halfords with my cars..

They fitted a DAB/DAB+ upgrade to my R class. I could have gone third party but I wanted to keep the factory look and the standard Comand unit has everything I need now.

The upgrade didn't go as smooth as it could but the guys worked with me to resolve it and it's now bang on. Costwise was about the same as a Chinese head unit but this is so much better as it integrates perfectly, doesn't involve dodgy wiring and sounds great.

My NTG 2.5 now has DVD, USB, Satnav, Bluetooth telephony, Bluetooth audio, SDCard and the inbuilt 4G music register storage.

I'm happy with the kit and the service and would happily go back.

I am considering this one : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115005633791 . There is a video on YouTube how to fit this screen.
Thanks - I’m not sure if I’m up to fitting the screen myself but unless I can find someone who is good and reasonably priced then I might have to learn!! (some companies have wanted up to £600 just for the fitting of a unit, which considering the car was less than £5k seems a bit steep to me)!!!

The one in the Ebay link doesnt appear to interface with the steering wheel controls for audio. Im going to speak to Icebox and the Command guys to work out the best way to go for my car which has Audio 50 rather than Audio 20 or full Command
