Sticking Brake Pedal

Hi, Hope someone can help.

I own a 97 E220 cabriolet. The brake pedal seems OK on startup and in park. Once I put it into drive and press the brake, the brake pedal stays in the pressed position and I have to manually push the pedal back up. I have checked the spring on the brake pedal and it seems ok. I have also checked the brake fluid level and none it being lost. Can anyone suggest what the problem could be- thanks in advance

Hello and welcome, it should be spring 83 that has snapped or come off

Thanks for the quick reply & the welcome - the diagram is very good but could you please tell me where is & how do I get to spring 83? Also, do you travel to Cardiff, South Wales for your mobile servicing service?

Just had another look at the diagram - its for the foot operated parking brake - my problem is with the normal brake pedal.

This is unusual, the pedal may be tight on the shaft and you should feel that by feeling any backlash/free play, you may have to disconnect the master cylinder etc too find what is tight

The pedal was OK last year. Since then the car has been sat idle for roughly 4 months. Could something have seized in that time? The pedal does'nt seem tight on the shaft, I can quite easily move it with my hand.

Has something gone wrong with the booster, its a sealed unit
