I have a July 2003 S500L with 33,000 miles recorded with full Merc Service History. The car is immaculate. All of a sudden in the past two weeks I have had Mercedes out 3 times with the following:

Alternator failure
Battery discharge
Electric folding mirrors sticking and draining battery.

Today I was told this was the start of problems with on board "Brain" and potential £4000plus bill.

Should I get rid?

Tested new Sclass yesterday.Not impressed

Get a second opinion.
The battery will be down to the alternator and at just over 3years old, I would have expected MB to pay for a portion if not all of the alternator. I haven't replaced an alternator for many years.

As regards the 'brain'. I'd want a lot more info. Apart from anything else, true, they cost a fortune new from MB, but IF it's failed, they can often be repaired for a couple of hundred, not several thousand, and in any case, poor mechanics often assume a failed computer if they can't figure out what's wrong. What are the symptoms?
