stiff gear change on vito 108d

Hi im a newbie to thissforum recently bought a 108d (1998 model) vito van for my business.

why is it that the gearchange is sooooo stiff, ive greased the linkage, but

can i do anything else to make it a smoother?

They often use the same gearbox from the cars, looking at your year of the Vito the mod was to remove some of the oil, Check this out with MB to see if it applies to you.

I had the same problem. I loosened the bolt that the counterweight mechanism pivots on, cleaned it & replaced it, using a little threadlock and leaving it just tight enough that everything was held firmly in place, but gear changes were possible. It's been o.k. for the last 4 months.

You've probably sorted it by now?
