Dear Members.
Though iv'e own my Mercedes for over six months now i still consider myself as a Newbie to these fabulous cars.
My biggest problem really is i have little or no one to make comparisons with when it comes to car performance.
What i mean is i'm driving about, thinking and hoping the car is running at peak performance, but how would i know, For all i know the car could be sluggish, acceleration could be better, is my fuel consumption correct, 0 to 60, what's the stats on that one. I understand my car is a good nineteen years old and that it has seen a good 145,000 K, so would i be expecting too much, or is their plenty of life in her so as to give it a good run at high speed.
Or should i take it's age into consideration and play it safe.
I don't have a knowledge of it's past and whilst driving i think to myself, should i take a bend gently coz of the suspension, Should i not accelerate to sharply coz of the pistons, you know things like that because you can't but help think of the age and like ourselves we start to fall apart with age.
Anyone out their to reasure and give me some confidence would be well recieved.
Thanks
Mike.

Mike,,there is a big difference in thrashing a car and driving fast with fun.

We have auto boxes so the car is always in the right gear at the right time.

If you floor it all day long, then you get wear on all of the drive components, brakes and suspension.

Drive it fast but not up to the max revs, keep it running light, fore sight weighing up the situation further down the road allows you to back off.

The engineering on these care is very good, so you do not have to nurse it, use the kick down, wind it up now and then, just do not thrash it. Nothing will fail that would not have failed by nursing it, it will perform better with a little spirited driving.
