:confused:Over the past few days my gear changes are becoming a problem. I have a 1997 C200 sport W202.
I can change from 1st to 2nd no problem, its when I go from 2nd to 3rd and when I go back from 3rd to 2nd. It seams like the gate has moved about 2cm from where it should be. 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th are all fine. There is no unusual noises and it drives good. Do you think it could be a linkage issue. Its low so I cant get under it to have a look.

Hi
Definitely a linkage problem.
Get a mate to change from 3 to 2 and you take pictures of what you can see moving under the bonnet.
Then put up the pictures on the forum.

Thanks Malcolm . . . . . Wow
Looks very complicated, if its a pain to find 1st from neutral and a pain to find 2nd to 3rd and back. . . . which bits on this picture do i look at, will it be obvoius from looking under the bonnet?

Not sure how easy it will be to see, might be easier if the car was put on axle stands:idea:

Success, I managed to get it on a ramp and look under it, at first I couldn't see anything amiss. I got my friend to change gear and could see the linkage bar sliding in and out of the coupling end only 1 in 5 gear changes, it has a score mark on it so I could see how far it had moved. Took the torque-end screw out and put it back in again. All sorted. Drives fine. It wasn't coming out of second gear fully.
Thanks to all who replied.

Malcolm it didn't quite look like the diagram.

Glad you got it sorted - maybe next time there is a problem the first 6 digits of the chassis number will help (diagrams etc)

Thanks for the advice, I'm new to all this. I shall remember the first 6 digits for next time.
