I have a 2000/W C250TD Classic with A/C (not Climate control).
The aircon only seems to kick in when driving round at low speeds and in traffic, but rarely on the motorway. When I drive to work every morning (approx 45 miles, first 3 are to get to the motorway in about 5 mins, then 40 miles on the motorway and 2 miles sitting in traffic the other end) the aircon only seems to kick in when I get off the motorway and sit in traffic. If I drive round the local area all weekend, then it seems to come on after 5 or 10 mins then stay on and cool efficiently.
I took it back the independent dealer I bought it from and they vac'd and recharged it but this didn't make any difference, not surprisingly. The only correlation I considered was that due to the type of driving I describe that the aircon only comes on when the electric fans start up as the engine temp rises above their switch-on threshold. I haven't been able to prove this, but it's the only logical connection I can make between the cooling system and my driving pattern.
I've tried switching the blower on/off several times during the journey, switching the EC button on and off repeatedly etc. If I move the dial to hot air, plenty of it comes through so that seems to be working OK.
The only other thing I have noticed is that when it is not working the blower is constantly on recycle (I believe this is an automatic feature). I know this because when I switch to EC mode the blower gets suddenly quieter as it switches to bring in outside air, then switching to recycle gives the same blower noise as before.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
