Strange (but expensive sounding) noise

Our C220 is running fine but I have been hearing a strange noise. It's a 'whooshing' sound when you accelerate or perhaps a rush of air. Disappears as quickly as it came when over 20 mph. Been doing this a few weeks now.

I think it sounds like something to do with AC system as it seems to come from the left side vent (?). Mrs Renward thinks it's not so specific and nowt to do with the AC. I guess we all hear different things...

Origionally, I suspected it was an AC rush of air on the basis that we had our AC system flushed out a few weeks ago by the dealer. However now I think Mrs R might be right and it's not AC as it remains unaffected by turning of the AC system/shutting air vents.

Any ideas anybody ? I really could do without another goddam big bill

Could be a turbo inter-cooler pipe split. I had very similar symptoms. Do you notice a strange gear shift pattern? Perhaps a slight hesitance to change up? Or slightly more smoke from the exhaust?

10min job, parts approx £130. Luckily for me I was covered under service contract

I'd second that. My 270 started to 'whoosh'. Split turbo pipe. Parts were £40 on mine - Finally, something mine isn't the most expensive on!!

Yeek stop frightening me.

Better call the garage tomorrow. I could hear that whooshing sound as Mrs RH pulled off a minute or two ago.

Thanks to the chaps on here - they were spot on with a split turbo pipe.

Went down to my local Mercedes specialist and they diagnosed same. Following afternoon they fiitted replacement and checked the system there and then while I waited. Cost me £80 in all.

Must feel guilty from the last time I went there ! - not ! :lol:
