Strange Clunk Noise

I have a W126 300 SE 1991, I have a strange sound coming from the front passenger side wheel area which sounds like a clunk when you are driving, it happens mainly when you brake and take off. If you bounce the car by pushing the front wing you can hear it as the car goes up and down, but not always!

I tried to have a look but when the car is on the flat part of my drive and you bounce the car it is not as obvious, but when its parked in it space on a slight slope leaning towards the passenger side and bounce the car it more apparent.

I am not sure where to start looking? Any ideas?

First thing to check is the bottom swivels,,check with an iron bar,levering for any movement,,and you can do the same with the other steering/suspension components

As malcolm, examine your bottom ball joints, also consider the bushes and links on the anti roll bar.

The bottom ball joints should be checked with the cars weight on the suspension because they operate under tension and lifting up the car untill the suspension has fully expanded will hold the ball joint tight enough to prevent your bar/lever finding any slop.

If you find any slop in the bottom ball joints do get them sorted asap or your wheel may just fall off.

Ball Joints

I purchased 2 lower ball joints and hope to fit them, they were only £7 each. I will get them fitted on Sunday and see if it makes a difference.
