Its the cars mood switch......

A = I'm going to start
B = Be nice to me and I will start
C = I might start
D = I think I'll cough and splutter a bit first before I start
E = I dont want to start
F = Not on your life will I start

Just a bit of humour!!! I'm sure my old Jeep had one of these......

This is the control switch for a primitive navigation device (pre-dating SatNav by more then 15 years) that tells you how far it is between A & B, etc. In the setting shown, the analogue display will show the distance from Frankfurt to Aachen. It've checked on mine and it's about 260km

A= Aachen
B = Bonn (or Berlin on post-unification models)
C = Koln (they use the English spelling Cologne to avoid confusion with Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Kassel and several thousand other German towns & cities)
D = Dusselforf/Dortmund/Duisberg (they are so close together that it makes no difference on the display)
E = Essen (round about equidistant form the above-mentioned D- towns)
F = Frankfurt-am-Main

Some of the later models have more complex switches that allow for inclusion of Stuttgart. In these models, the switch goes staight from L to N because our friends don't like to mention Munchen.

This navigation option was not often installed on models sold in the UK because the system is hard-wired and cannot be adjusted to show, for instance, the distance between Aberdeen and Bristol (which, incidentally, is a very long way, both geographically and culturally).

Blimey, Malcom saves the day!

The USA can sleep sound at night now knowing that!

My guess was it would be a damper setting or something like that, primitive sat nav never crossed my mind!
