Whilst under the car changing the transmission oil, I noticed what appears to be oil leaking from a component that I saw from below. An afternoon [painfully} browsing the workshop WIA/ASRA manual and I failed to identify what it is!

IMG_20210908_170934053.jpg IMG_20210908_170946427.jpg I'm wondering if any of you more experienced mechanics might know? If is on the nearside (mine is a UK RHD model) side of the engine on the inside of the wheel arch. 2x photos attached are taken from below looking forwards and up. First photo shows the component's position (in the centre of photo), the second is a rather blurry close-up. I'm alos wondering what the cream coulored part is below that it is dripping oil onto?

With thanks

The pics are rather unclear as to the location, too close up, as for the cream part, there is a pn there (A162.....), if you can see the full pn (or use a camera phone to get a pic), put the pn into google and that will tell what it is...hopefully.

Thank you Mioba for your reply.

I can confirm that the mystery part is a Fuel Injection Throttle Body 6510900470. Photo attached. I found it by looking in the parts catalogue.

I'm less worried now about the apparent leak as it does not contain a fluid, although it really ought not to be leaking. Other cars I've worked on have allowed pressure out of the crank case via a pipe to the inlet manifold, which creates a similar sticky mess. It could be spilt engine oil, but it is not apparent elsewhere.

Would be nice to be able to get to it, remove it and give it a good clean and inspection, but at arm's length from below and barely visible from above, that is no doubt another extremely awkward procedure. Which while the car continues to run like a dream, I'll put off doing!

I'm still working on the cream coloured part below. Best guess is an engine mounting.

Ah, parts catalogue confirms that the cream coloured part below is an engine mounting.

Ah well there you go.. engine mounts are typically oil filled. Yours is shot if it's leaking.

Usually two mounts + a transmission mount. Get them all changed and you should a nice smooth ride.

Thanks Conor for the heads-up. There was me assuming the oil on the mount had dripped down from the Intake Air Throttle, yet it could have squirted up from the mount! I had no idea that the mounts were oil-filled. For others, here is a handy article on diagnosing failed mounts...
