Once in a while we would all like to own a vehicle that would be useless for our everyday lifestyle.

Now you could go out an hire an exotic car for a week but have you seen the prices and the mileage costs? (2004 SL500 - £1750 per week up to 450 miles). Doesnt have to be a Merc of course.

So 52 of us get together and contribute £1000 each to buy and insure an exotic car (low mileage 2 or 3 year old). We each get to drive it for one week each year.

After 3 years we could sell it and probably still get £400 back each - or raffle it between the 52 members !!

Now how much would that McClaren SLR work out to ?

for £1000 a year 360 of us could club together for a SLR. If we agree to keep it 7 years then we get a whole week with it. once....or 24hrs each year.

SL65AMG would need 180 or us which would work out 2 days a year each.

i am unsure but the SLR may well hold its value of the 7 year ownership and seeing as they are gonna make 3500 of them at 500 a year then we would be selling it on one year after they cease production. so we would know if it gives us our £1000 back or whether we would get more of a less fee but it wont be totally wasted. altho i want first call on it on day 1...just so i can make sure it isnt smashed up.

of course 6 of us could get hold of a New Fiat panda for a £1000 and have it for 2 months each.....they pay a scrap merchant £150 to take it in 12 months...

SL600 between 52 of us for 3 years on a balloon payment purchase plan would work out around £450 a year each. then give it back and walk away unless it is worth more than the gaurenteed payment worth.

hey the panda sounds good :p but the problem is with insurance :-? in the case of the slr who's going to have 360 named drivers on their policy:wink:

just have an any driver policy and a huge excess that the driver of the day agrees to pay should it be smashed up by them....not sure i want an SLR anyway.......i prefer that bristol i once put a pic up offf...and it be cheaper too. and they have sold an amazin 17 of them since launch...whereas the 500th slr was out last month.

and its got a v10 8l job...now thats an engine...not this 5.4 blown thing.

Answer is buy the SLR but when each member wants to use it we just transfer our own insurance for the time we are using it.......probably be able to insure against theft and accidental damage only and exclude driving risks so that it is covered at times it is not being used by members.....

okay, so there it is. 360 members required to give each member of the syndicate 1 day each per year.

So the trick is to plot each members position in the UK ,not forgetting our friends in Ireland, and "pass" the car to each other in some sort of huge relay race.

We may actually be able to drive the whole year without switching the thing off except for petrol station visits and services !! - must be a qualifier for the Guiness Book of Records. Reckon we can untick the heated seats option.......

best make sure olaf doesn't get his turn whens its due for a service..i can just imagine his face picking it up and finding out his day is a trip to his local happy merc dealer......

here..why not take two days each and have a none driver as your other investor. they can partake in sitting next to you in it...that should be worth a grand......get a really dopey one and you might get 2 grand off them thus meaning its petrol costs and nothing else. Am I cheap or what?

if

we carry on like this
a) we'll get it at a discount
b) MB will do a turbodiesel version just for us, so we aren't worried about petrol

Should we ask them if they'd like to lend us one for a few days feasibility study. Bags first go for having the idea.

for an SLR you have to pay a deposit of £25k to signal intent to buy....then they book you into to a hotel and take you to the facilty they build it and discuss your options. once you have entered into an agreement they then take you to a circuit and let you drive one under supervision...then they get out and let you drive it for a few hours where you like.....with a guy following to take you back to the hotel for another night., then the following day you get a model of your car in the colour you ordered......

eeeee. imagine 360 of us trying to agree that black is best!

How much do they want for their demonstrator I wonder?

Anyway, you are all just butting in on my idea and so I have decided to just buy one myself. I've already taken the first steps and bought a lottery ticket for Saturday so there...

have been told by mercedes that you can drive any merc back from germany as when you pay delivery you are allowed at mercs expence to collect from factory
is this not the case for this car then??

Hi SLinKyjoe....I don't mind the service day.....a drive to Tom Murphy's in Waterford [MB dealer]....service over there is in the very capable hands of Orla......+ 353 51 301222 and you always get coffee or tea and no bulls**t either.
