Is This Covered By The Bodywork Rust Guarantee, And If Not Has Anyone Any Idea Of Rough Cost Of A New Unit.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Do you mean the chassis crossmember that runs underneath the engine, just over the top of the plastic undertray?

You should be able to have that done under warranty, you might have to try a few dealers before you are successful though.

They should cover it, as above, try a few dealers.
Worst case, if they don't, I've seen postings of excellent repair jobs. Changing it is a difficult but in situ welding can make it structurally sound again.

It Took Mercedes 4 Months To Give A Decision On My My Wife's 01 C180 Rust

Hi FIBAMAN
It took my local MB dealership over 8 months to give a decision on a rusty door on my C230K. The same rust was repaired a couple of years earlier under warranty but it broke out again. I used an MB Appoved repairer too. The rust spread whilst waiting for the decision to be made. A second warranty repair should have been an automatic decision. Persistence paid off though.

I expect some owners have had to wait longer than 8 months. I wonder which member holds the record?

Regards

Phil

Do you have to have full MB service history to warrant the warranty ?
I have two small rust spots on the wheel arch of a 1999 CLK, whould that be covered by any chance ?

The Answer About Full Srvice History Is Vague, My Local Mot Garage Owner Bought An E220cdi Without History But Still Got Work Done.
Mine Has Mbsh Upto 95000 Miles, I Bought Car At 109,000 Last Oct. And Now Have 125000.
I Would Question The Level Of Attention At Mb Service As This Problem Would Have Been Apparent At The Last Mb Service If Carried Out Correctly. The Degree Of Corrosion Present Has Not Just Occurred In This Intervening Period. Corrosion Protection (mainly Industrial) Is The Mainstay Of My Business So I Do Have Some Experience In This Field.

Hi FIBAMAN

'The Answer About Full Srvice History Is Vague, ...' is unquestionably true and it is amazing how many members have cited warranty claims within this Forum that have met with varying degrees of success. Some dealers will accept claims whereas others will not. Each dealer is supposed to refer corrosion claims to DC in Germany and await an answer. This, and the large number of claims, presumably explains the long waits reported by some members. There should be no question of vagueness but this subject has been raised hundreds of times before and doubtless the questions will continue far into the future or until corrosion issues cease through the use of composites.

Phil

Mine would have gone longer than the 7 months it did had I waited, but I complained and they whipped it straight in!
Amazing how fast they can move when they want to!
