sunroof on a w201

I was wondering can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the cable on the sunroof that connects to the motor while the sunroof is still in the car ?.........or does the whole unit have to come out ?

hi it is possible to remove & renew the cable without much problem.
1)remove the sunroof inner trim cover. easier with roof open not tilted up.
2)rear centre of roof cassette. locate two 10mm bolts holding the cable bracket to the roof. remove these and either using the sunroof switch or manually turning the motor wind the cable out of its pressed steel guide tube.
3)upon fitting new cablefeed it back down the tube untill it reaches the motor wormdrive. then using the sunroof switch as if to close the roof wind the cable down the tube untill the cable end alignes wiyh the bracket holes.
finally you might have to re time the motor.
