Hi just got a 1985 190e but the sunroof dosen't slide back or tilt, although I can hear motor turning, can anyone point me in the right direction to fix it myself?
Hi
my 88 230E had the same problem which turned out to be the fastner which attaches the cable to the underside of the roof had snapped. On my 230 I jost popped off the front clips of the sunroof liner(roof has to be partially open to do this) and could see the the fastner to which the cable was supposed to be attached to. Two 10mm bolts was all that secured it.Scrappy supplied replacement easy enough job.
It could also be that the nylon worm wheel has had its teeth stripped in the motor which is located in the boot, which would allow the motor to turn without the roof moving.
It might just be the roof is jammed shut. Might be able to move it using the manual opening nut which should mounted local to the motor.
the cable came disconected from the sunroof in my 190E a few years ago - the two securing screws had fallen out. Relatively easy to fix with a bit of patience and determination
