Hi, i'm thinking to modify my clk with a superchip.. there's a dealer selling tones of mercedes parts in england. Here's the link:

http://www.mercedesperformance.co.uk

it says with my clk230 komp W208, i could increase by 40bhp. Now, i have a question, can i really feel the 40BHP with the superchip? Btw, it costs almost 1K pounds, which i think it's worth of money for the 40bhp..

what do u think??

When i previously made enquiries re-chips, i was mostly offered 'satisfaction or money back'.....if your supplier is confident in his product he will offer you the same. Dont part with your money without this pledge in writing.

(I eventually decided NOT to chip)

It cannot be just a chip upgrade, to get that sort of gain and money it must be a pulley upgrade too. You will definetly notice another 40bhp, I chipped my C250TD and with an adjustable chip can achieve upto 40bhp over standard but generally run it at +30bhp. This really makes a sedate family estate car into a subtle GTi beater and a lot of fun too.

I am planning to add a dashboard switch so I can have a Standard mode and a Sports mode at the touch of a switch.

I'm afraid it is more difficult to get the extra power out of a petrol and even though yours is supercharged it is similar to a naturally aspirated engine when it comes to chip tuning.

Extra power from a turbo charged engine is simple, I use a piggy-back type tuning box that is adjustable by the use of dip switches. I fitted it myself and it is easily removable and I could incorporate a simple on/off switch if wanted.

As for fuel economy, in theory a more powerful engine will be more efficient to a degree, if I can control myself and drive 'normally' I do get better MPG but it is so easy to use that extra power for a bit of fun.

A girl who works for me is well into the local boy and girl racer scene, I had a bit of fun with them one night and showed them up with my sedate looking family, diesel estate car!! Burnouts and doughnuts are no problem and I put a few souped up hot hatches to shame.

But seriously, if you want a bit more power or tow atrailer occasionally like I do then it is well worthwhile, the only disadvantage so far has been the smoke, there are instances where the chip can overfuel the engine, on a diesel this causes excess black smoke, you just need to back off the pedal a bit. This can lead to problems with the CAT and obviously an MOT failure.

There are plenty of chip manufacturers, I used TD Tuning.
