When going over speed bumps slowly there is a scrunching sound from the front suspension. Sounds like rubber against metal and is more noticeable when the car is fully laden. The car is regularly serviced by Mercedes main dealer but I have not spoken to them about this as it started about 3 weeks ago. Any suggestions please.

Assuming the suspension on yours is similar to that on the current models, it may well be the worn out rubber anti-roll bar bushes rubbing against the metal anti-roll bar.

It happens a lot on the current C-Class. It is always much more noticeable on hot dry days.

Spraying silicone lubricant onto the bushes may help temporarily, but the real answer is to replace the bushes.

Expect to pay an MB dealer about £10 for a pair of new bushes. I'm not sure of the labour charge, but it is easily done in under half an hour on a C-class, so hopefully it won't cost you too much.

I hope that is useful to you.

the roll bar bracket is a common failure - both of ours developed hairline cracks and made a horrible noise before one of them failed completely - made an even more horrible noise :)

cost about £12 each from the dealers and take minutes to fit

noisy suspension

My 1994 C180 was ok until last year when it started to make the same squishy noise when going over speed humps, slow or fast. This year the sound has disappeared, and I saved $1000 not changing the 4 shocks. They look like they have some fluid leaks. My 1997 C180 also had this noise earlier this year and now its totally gone without any sign of fluid leaks at all. Hope they are ok as they feel very good now with nothing done at all.
