Does anyone have a MB removeable tow bar assembly for sale. If you say yes, make sure that it looks like the one shown in the Owners manual. Otherwise I will have a wasted trip and think that you have mis led me.

I know they retail for £400 so I will pay upt to £100 for a dirty one that has been fitted or £200 for a clean one thats never been fitted.

Also I dont expect a new unfitted MB assemply to be rusty! I know this sounds daft but Rob can show you one.

Tony,

I suggest that you put your hand in your wallet and buy the towbar from your friendly Mercedes dealer!

The Mercedes tow bar I have for sale is unused, complete and NOT rusty!!!!!

Thats funny have you looked at it with your glasses on, because the oxidisation on it called "rust" so that makes your new MB tow bar that looks nothing like a MB tow bar, Rusty.

no pop intended, it just goes to show that even within 70 miles we can living on different planets, I had never seen 3 year old MB treated like a transit van inside and out, pity the next owner. It might not be possible to make wheels that have never been cleaned shine again. Why buy an MB if you are not going to look afetr it? Perhaps it was won in a competition or gifted to Rob in another. Either Rob, buy a Land rover next time, it would be more suited to that level of neglect and abuse. Finally I would ask how underbody grime could get on a new tow bar.

I brought a towbar from MB in the end and surprisingly it was clean, not rusty and nothing like your rob, in fact it was like the one in tha manual, that MB supply, odd that?

Don?t worry about the tow bar rusting because your car will rot away before the tow bar.

Dear TonyCoolDaddy,

I am amazed that after a break of 11 months you have reopened your post "T210 MB Removeable Tow bar 2001". I would normally treat your comments with the contempt that they deserve, not bother to reply, and let people draw their own conclusions. However, as your aggressive comments regarding the care I give my car have been made in public, I feel that I need to reply.
I had never seen 3 year old MB treated like a transit van inside and out
My car is used daily for business. Typically I travel 800 miles per week - my three year old E class estate has now traveled about 110,000 miles. I usually have to fold down the rear seats once a week, in order to get equipment in the car. During the winter months the car will get dirty within a few days of cleaning. It is normally hand washed, by me, and the interior tidied on Sundays. The seats have optional Mercedes seat covers and I have a Mercedes load liner to protect and keep the estate carpet clean. The interior is regularly cleaned and vacuumed. As I recall you visited on a Saturday (and arrived over an hour late on a 40 mile journey from Swindon to Bristol).
pity the next owner
I intend to use my Mercedes until its about 8 years old. By this time it will probably have travelled over 300,000 miles. It will then replace my wife?s current Audi A6 estate (currently at 190,000 miles). The Mercedes is and will continue to be serviced by my local Mercedes dealer, in accordance with the published service schedule.
It might not be possible to make wheels that have never been cleaned shine again
The wheels are washed with the rest of the car. About every 6 months, I remove them from the car and clean them to remove any accumulated brake dust. From a practical point, I'd prefer steel wheels with plastic wheel trims - much easier to clean.
Why buy an MB if you are not going to look afetr it?
I think from the above responses you'll find that I do look after my car. Without a reliable vehicle, I would be unable to carry out my work. I chose to buy a Mercedes estate car because, after looking at all the large estate cars available, Audi A6, Citroen C5, Ford Mondeo and Volvo V70, the Mercedes E class estate fitted my requirements the best. I need a large estate car to carry lasers and associated optical equipment, signal processors and computers used in fluid dynamics measurements. I visit and support customers throughout the England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Perhaps it was won in a competition or gifted to Rob in another
Unfortunately, I wasn?t lucky enough to win the car. I had to buy it.
Either Rob, buy a Land rover next time, it would be more suited to that level of neglect and abuse
A Land Rover would not be a suitable vehicle to travel all over the area that I cover ? additionally the fuel costs would be atrocious (I average 45mpg in the E class) and I'd need a day to recover after driving to Edinburgh. Additionally, I don't think that a Land Rover has a load platform of over 2m. I think I have already explained why my car gets dirty and how often it gets cleaned, even though it?s not really any of your business. I bought my car to be used, not as a static display model.
Finally I would ask how underbody grime could get on a new tow bar
If you drove long distances during the winter months and lived on a narrow country lane (no pavements ? muddy verges), then you'd understand how underbody grime gets everywhere.
I brought a towbar from MB in the end and surprisingly it was clean, not rusty and nothing like your rob, in fact it was like the one in tha manual, that MB supply, odd that?
I'm glad that you took my advice and bought a tow bar from a dealer - it's the only way you'd ever be satisfied. I'm just amazed that it?s taken you 11 months to buy a tow bar. From another of your posts, I understand that you require help with the necessary wiring. Again, I suggest that you get your Mercedes dealer to sell to you and install the electrical wiring. Otherwise, it might be another 11 months before you?re able to tow your caravan. If you had looked properly at the new unused tow bar that I had for sale, you would have noticed that it had a 'Made for Mercedes Benz' label, that the documentation had a 'Q........' Mercedes code number and that it carried type approval.

I trust that this reply will now conclude this topic and that I will not have the misfortune to come into contact with you ever again.

Regards, Robert

PS Whilst I value my car, I would not describe it as ?my precious? ? I save that description for my family.
