I know the kick plate needs to be removed to access the torque screws for adjustment, but I cannot remove the kick plate, I have removed the screws, but it will not budge, and I don't want to force and brake something.
Is anything else holding it in place?
Thanks

I had to do this with mine - a 2004 model, now sold.

The stainless kick plate along the lower edge of the opening is clipped on. It takes some 'springing' off and also needs a feel for the metal as you do it.

Once I'd adjusted the striker so that the tailgate closed better, I also needed to adjust the two rubber bump stops, each side of the opening.

Hope that helps.

How are the rubber bump stops adjusted? Maybe I will see how when the kick plate is removed?

The bump stops (doubt if that's the correct name, but ...) are part way up each tailgate pillar on the bodywork. I think I had to loosen them and move them, but memory fails me. It should be easy to sort out though.

Don`t think my S203 is the odd one out but they do not have any adjustment on the tailgate half way up?

Nothing on the tailgate and just a moulded piece of metal on the body......nothing to adjust only at the striker.

I think you are right, I cannot see anything to adjust on the tailgate or body.

My apologies gents - there are no 'bump stops' on the S203.
I was thinking of another car.
My 203 is sold long since and my memory is even rustier than the early 203's!
