tailgate rams,300te estate

Does anyone know how to change the tailgate rams on a 92 300te estate.
I thought it was going to be a simple job but i cant even work out how to get to them. and i cant find it in the haynes manual

Any help would be much appreciated

They're up above the tailgate opening inboard of the hinges. You need to remove the big plastic roof trim behind the hinges but be careful as it's brittle

I'm told the rams are easy to fit & are held in by a circlip

The Haynes W124 manual is pretty useless

AFAIKR you also need a strong pair of thighs & a broom handle.............
most of this is done lying on your back & when the struts are off that's a heavy tailgate!! & needs to be jollied around to get the little effers lined up.

Where did you get the rams from and would you have a part number please.

I've got some weak rams on my estate which have seen better days.

Were these new?

I was there last week and noticed they had quite a lot of new body panels and bonnets which they said they had got from Mercedes.
No W124 stuff though.

I bought a new pair from Ebay, part number; 124 770 0225.

Should arrive today hopefully

Although it did take nearly 3 1/2 hrs for the first side the second side only took just over an hour, isnt it funny how easy things are when you know what to do
