Need to replace the tailgate Wiper Motor on my trusty estate.
(Had it from new, done 229900 miles!).
Im sure it will be a simple job if only I knew how to remove the inside panel of the tailgate.
Does anybody know?
And is there a reliable source for a used motor?

Hi

Its a piece of p***.

However I followed the routine in the Haynes manual which was good on this. I can recommend the manual to you.

From memory (it was a little while ago!) you have to slip/prise off the trim around the tailgate lock/manual release in an upwards direction. Then release all the fasteners around the bottom edge of the tailgate - they are quick release type - then give panel a sharp thump in upwards direction and its off.

Good luck

Norman is right, except I reoved the plastic trim along the bottom of the tailgate 1st. The carpeted panel is held in place by 4 plastic clips, 2 each end of the panel. Prise these up and away from the tailgate, and then thump the trim panel upwards to release the top edge.

The motor has a large connector located on the LHSD of the tailgate. The block connector is retained by a "U" shaped spring clip, remove this, slide the block connector out and separate the 2 halves.

Remove the arm of the wiper, undo the 3 retaining nuts on the back of the motor body. To remove the wiper motor assy, you have to twist the whole thing round until it begins to slide out of the glass through the rubber grommet. I would recommend buying a replacement grommet just in case yours is perished.

When refitting it, use some grease or silicone on the grommet to ease reassembly and prevent water ingress.

Best of luck!

Jim.

Have you found a motor yet? There was a guy breaking a 320E Estate in the Loot a week ago and he still has a wiper motor when I rang him on the weekend.
