I went to the doctors and had to park in a side street as the car park was full. When I came out there was an identical merc parked in front of me-minus it's badge. There were 2 men - one standing in front of his merc and the other looking at mine. As I walked towards them they got into their car and drove off. My first thought was that they were about to steal my badge. When I told Brian he said they wouldn't have been able to get it off without breaking it, and it would be no good to them. Perhaps I am being paranoid-but it did seem suspicious-as they had no badge on their car.

I think your first thoughts were correct. I once caught a couple of young lads crouching down by my wheels. Then I noticed the chrome valve caps missing.
They handed them over and shot off pretty smartly.

Hi,

When I told Brian he said they wouldn't have been able to get it off without breaking it,
Depends on which badge we're talking about. I don't know about the one that's part of the grille but the 'gunsight' badge is relatively easy to remove - after all, it sticks out and, although it'll fold flat if struck by any of the lower orders who try to hinder one's progress, damaging said member of the lower orders too severely can render him/her unfit for work for longer than a couple of days. :( So the badge will pull out complete. :(

Nevertheless, I'm not sure why someone would wish to steal one from another car - last time I had to purchase one, the local MB dealer charged me a such trifling sum I was sure the parts person had made a mistake, paid cash and left as quickly as possible without breaking into a run.

Hth.

Regards,

Can't you put double sided tape on them?

Its a thin foam Helen,,and to try and cut out around the letters is near impossible they are not expensive from MB the 500SL letters and numbers cost £14 from MB

But other than putting them in a box or looking at them,,they are not much use for anything else.

I have loads that I am throwing away right now

For me, i want the badge on. Not sure of the benefit of having no badge on the back. suppose it's down to personal taste though.:D

You have a car with no badges, and you get the 500cc engine,,cut the ends off of the exhaust pipes and fit 2 x 9" diameter exhaust trims, but never engage in a burn up.

Just warm them up with a hair drier or warm air gun and you can lift them with your finger nail,,some use dental floss.

The residue will wipe off with spirit like lighter fuel
