My tappets seem rather noisey. Are these adjustable and if so does anyone know of a good video or thread that might assist me. I'm only a DIYer so if it's considered to be a tricky job please warn me!

They are hydraulic so no adjustment , is it possible you are confusing the normal diesel clatter for loose tappets ?

Doug thank you for that reply. I could well be confused. What do you mean exactly by loose tappets. What goes wrong when they are 'loose' and how do I check for this?

Old school engines they were adjustable , newer engines like om606 they are filled with engine oil under pressure ( hydraulic lifters ) so they take up any clearances and are relativity quiet.
For instance when these om606 are cold they clatter, older style diesels like this do, and compared to petrol engines they sound like a tin of nails rattling

Ok thanks. So when you say 'Loose' you didn't mean that this is something worn/failed just that when the engine is cold they will rattle/tap more?

Diesel engines tend to clatter due to the very high pressure the injection system operates at in conjunction with the way mechanical injectors operate. Piezoelectric injectors are quite but still far noisier than petrol injectors.

Hydraulic tappets can 'tick' if they get old and worn but this generally involves only one or two lifters and is a distinctive tick tick tick.

If you're concerned take a video with sound, upload to YouTube and post the link here.
