tapping noise on start-up.

The last 5/6 times I've started my c200' I've heard a dull tapping/clicking noise that stops after 1/2 minutes. Seems to come from behind the dash about mid console. The car is running sweetly but this noise is starting to worry me. Any ideas please?

Possible one of your heater flap actuating motors of flap has failed/ broken.

Can it do any damage if I don't get it fixed immediately?

No, if it is that, then some of your heating functions may not work correctly.

What about timing chain rattle if it only happens on start up when cold ?
