A few years ago I was shown the spec / drawings for constructing a winch to lift , hold and lower the hardtop of a 420SL. My car is the ' 88 model which I love dearly
but can no longer risk hernia ( or worse ) in tackling removal of the top. Does anyone know where I may be able to get a copy the spec. plse ?  I really am keen to stay in the MB class & not join the truss society.

Hi

I have got the drawings and pictures for one of the hoists, I am not a great fan as if they are erected badly or you have a problem it is not only the hardtop you will damage. The option once a year to ask someone to help you might be a good idea.

The W107 is a heavy top, I know of a lot cheaper option for a winch but it may be iffy with a steel hardtop.

Let me know if you are still interested and I will look for the pictures and I will try to email them.

Cheers

If you do a search on the internet, you will find many articles and even DIY plans for hoist and winches, mostly from the US.
