Hi,

I've got a K reg 190E Merc. Seem to have an issue with the temperature gage, basically when I'm driving it'll be normal, but whenever I come to a standstill/stop it goes high (as if it is overheating)

Any ideas what the issue might be?

Cheers in advance.

I would initially suspect the radiator on a car of that age, check if the fins are clear, especially near the bottom of the rad, sometimes blowing thru with an airline or water hose will clear any debris from the fins.. be careful and dont use a pressure washer as it can be too powerful and cause problems

this is a common one

have you checked the water level in rad when cold
what is the millage
have you ever changed the water in the rad and toped up with coolent ( stops rust build up )
the temp stat in the head may need to be changed as this openens and closes when water in rad gets hot enough if this is sticking the water can not pump trough the head and you get a hot engine ( and loose the engine )

let us know and then we can help more

is the fan working which is cooling the rad working when engine running hot after a while

if not the temp sensor for the fan may be gone

As above - Does the cooling fan start up when it's going to high temperature?

Locate the thermal switch for the fan (forward nearside of cylinder head) remove the connector and link the two pins, start the engine fan should be running ,if so replace switch ,if not its the fan assy.If fan runs do the carrot test to confirm ok. Dont forget to check for 12v and fuse.
