Hi
new thread same issues

My vito 112cdi 2002 takes a very long time to get up to opperating temperature about 25-30mimute of good driving and cools off fairly fast as well if I stop or slow down.

Yesterday I had the thermostat changed and hoped that it cure the issue but after a quick
Drive today it now know it hasn't.

So where to and what to do next?

Things considered changing are the recirc pump if it was faulty would cause the engine to run cooler? I can imagine that it could cause it to over heat but not stop it warming up.

Heater matrix blocked? It is cool in the cab but the when at opperating speed on the motor way it does blow some hot air in

Auxiliary heater mine is broken but I assume that these are just used on cold mornings to help defrosting and that once up to temp the engine should be able to hold a temp of 80on it's own.

So if you guys have and suggestion I'd really appreciate it very much indeed as this problem has already cost me a fair bit of time and money

One more thing I correct that took me a while the heat cable that runs down to the pipes above the peddles had a small kink in that would have stop it opening all the way but I have opened it manually now.

I'd thought chuck this in incase any body else was having issues with there heater easy Fault to check

Hi malcolm

Yep I can get up the temp up to 85 on the motorway.
I'm gunna drive around d a bit this week and see how long it take to get up to temp around town /if it can get there.
How long would you expect it to take to get up to its working temp of 80?

I did read a thread about the alternate/water pump belt been on backwards
could that cause the pump to run backwards and would that make any odds?

Thanks again for your advice malcolm

If the pump was running backwards it would over heat, many in the Winter blank of ½ the rad with a piece of cardboard

Hi malcolm

I have dabbled with silver bubble rap rad shield
I pulled it out before the big drive south the other day but I might slot back I was worryed I might trip some sensors on the van. Or that it might melt into my radiator.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that im a van hypercondriac and that it might just take a long time for it to get up to temperature.

Thanks for your advice malcolm

You have a temp gauge, if you blank off part of the rad, just keep your eyes on it, many blank off part of the rad in the winter, you are OK up to 90c and nothing can happen under that.

Which one from ecp?
I'm not saying that the stat is at fault but if you bought the cheapest one it may not be as good as a genuine Mercedes stat

Im thinking about flushing the rad on the weekend ive read a little bit on it
But couldn't see the drain screw the other day I don't suppose you guys have a picture of what I'm looking for?
I picked up some rad flush as well.

I've got a mix of coolants at the moment it got top up with pink anti freeze but was still half full of blue
So I'm keen to flush it and fill it and start again.
