Hey guys, I signed up on here with aid to helping my dad out :) He owns a 1.8 190E (W201) and I always give him a hand where I can :)

Ok basically he's thinking the clutch may be on the way out. Checking in the haynes manual it tells you to create some little tool (which we've had especially made up).

The manual states that to check the clutch to see if it's worn or not theres a slot between the slave cylinder flange and the bellhousing. Me n my dad jacked the car up, got underneath, found the cylinder flange......No slot?? Could it be theres been a spurious cylinder been fitted in the past which doesn't have the neccesary slot in? The cylinder doesn't look quite like its aged with the rest of the underneath of the car which could also give reason to believe it's not the original.

Are there any other methods of checking the clutch rate? Apart from the handbrake test??

If needs be I can get more info if it will help you guys come to some sort of conclusion and help out if you guys could.

Basically I have had to sign up on here instead of my dad as my dad is.....To say the least, computer illiterate, putting it nicely lol!!

Any info would be great thanks! Nice site aswell, will keep in touch on here as it's very cool :D
