I saw a news article today whereby written off Tesla’s and Leafs were being cannibalised to convert old Ferrari’s and the like to electrickery. Not sure how I feel about that however I know it will become more popliar with “investors”

I would take a punt that the ones salivating and mourning the loss of large v engines have never been in a tesla where one has put ones foot to the floor :) Experience the ludicrous power delivery and you to may then question why you ever thought a v8 was so great in the first place? (yes im ready to exit this thread rather sharpish ;) ).. haha..
Ive had a v8 and a v6, even a v6 2 stroke (crazy fast and even crazier fuel consumption) and bikes, but for all out thrills it has to be the unbeatable super quite and smooth acceleration of a tesla.. there is nothing like it.
As more cars become electric (so we assume) the availability of petrol will surely decline to the point where it will be nearly impossible to find any for sale, thus killing off the internal combustion engine ?
I will totally agree a v12 or v8 sounds lovely compared to all this noisy boy racer machines though...

That. I'll take a slightly slower V8 that does more than just speed, the way the vibrations and noise etc makes you feel is worth more than any extra power from a 'leccy car

Not so long ago I would totally agree with you. Was close to buying an amg some years back but the thought of the fuel I would be using whilst stuck in traffic always put me off as it would be my only car.

Still yearned for an M or amg at some point , until I got in that (swear word)
Had a mk2 Daimler (v8) and it was fun.. Had a lotus and the cornering was like nothing else.. had a cbr and the best thing about that was its straight line acceleration.. but now I know what I like best of all , super smooth 0-60 or 100 !
Just watch virtually any video and see peoples reactions.. I don't think any other vehicle can come close to the sheer enjoyment factor that a (swear word) creates when accelerating..

And yeah, you can keep the rest of the electric cars... zzzz.

I've always loved big engined cars. My neighbour has recently bought a Vauxhall Insignia and l went out to chat with him about it. I asked what size engine it was, fully expecting 1.8 or 2 litre. I was astonished when he said it was a 1.4 petrol ! In a car that size !!!

I have just had a Pug 308 SW on hire and it had a 1.5l Turbo Diesel in, no power at all but at 120kmh it was doing 65mpg!!!!

Skoda do an Octavia with a 1L petrol in!!!!

What it shows on the screen is only a very rough approximation of actual consumption...

I worked out the consumption over the week and it was close to 60mpg average, was shocked for such a large car 4 up and a pathetic engine

If my currently banger S212 keeps going as it is (touch wood). I was planning on buying an SL/SLK as a run around late next year. Perhaps I will _need_ to buy a V8 (55 AMG/500) as the opportunity for acquiring these could be diminishing..

....

I am very happy with mine, the only current problem is an SRS warning light that is an easy fix. I would say it needs to be a second car, not a daily driver. Can't think of anything that gives more smiles per mile than a '55 Kompressor.

Oh I don't know....ajlsl600's old SL600 would run it close. Similar power but with a V12 howl.

that's a very bold claim considering you have no idea what the future holds !
Well the only way they can make that happen is by introducing NVH injection...

I don't disagree that future e-motoring will be boring. My bone of contention is that large IC growlers are fun in their own right and I would like to experience them in all their glory before the are disappear.

Currently, the only attraction to electric is the pure acceleration. I find most of the cars a bit bland to be honest. Tesla is currently the front runner, which I am just not attracted to.

Audi e-trons aren't bad looking though.

The Tesla roadster also has potential imho, but I don't necessarily want my cars to look they have come out of a computer game. The designs are very basic versus that of what premium german brands product.
