I wonder if they have a licence to do the raffle? You can do it without a licence but you also have to have a skill element as well - like spot the ball / frisby / dog in the picture.
Or spot the misdescription ..

While I agree with your first statement, I've always thought that the personalised number plates were a bit of fun.

All you were doing was individualising your car, not trying to make it look like something it wasn't. :)

I think proper personalised plates are fine (I've had one with my initials 'RWQ') but those where numbers are substituted for letters, screws placed to help create letters and illegal spacing (IMO:)) seem a little desperate. Why bother.

When the new numbering system came out in 2001, a guy I know immediately worked out that he'd have to wait until 2015 to get a plate that vaguely resembled his surname. Which he did get in 2015. He previously had H15 YAB. His surname begins with YAB. and the H15 was meant to be 'his'.:rolleyes::(

I would stay well away from that. If it is unregulated the owner could provide his best mate or a girl friend with a bluddy cheap car at the expense of expectant punters

I personally do not trust any of these so-called "Raffles" - it's just a money-making racket!

Totally agree.

It's basically asking for trouble.

Hell mend them when it comes their way too, I've no sympathy for self inflicted stupidity. :p

The MOT should sort out most of the wrongly displayed Reg. plates. whether it does or not is another issue.

My personal opinion is, (concerning Registration Number Plates) is that if you are in Law Enforcement, (which most of the time is an Ass) then you should, or rather it could be of your concern, if not than it has really nothing to do with you only to the person/persons concerned.

And as far as incorrect badgin, again, personal choice. Like for instance, how many of you have AMG Wheels? Well, if it is not an "AMG" then you are equally at fault. Yes I know it sounds ridiculous doesn't it. Well, there you go, I rest my case..... :)

Couldn't agree more. My car came with AMG floor mats, wheels and styling etc so who's to blame. Only thing that's missing is the great big lump under the bonnet.

Problem is you cannot buy an R231 SL in the UK without AMG wheels and mats, however you can buy one without an illegal number plate or AMG badge.

I have called my local constabulary and they reliably inform me that they will not prosecute for using Mercedes standard fitted equipment or even a badge but apparently if I call them again they will prosecute for wasting their time ;-)

MB offer AMG parts as options and sell the "AMG Line" so, I don't that believe that your "equally at fault" statement is correct. My car came standard with AMG wheels, body styling, MATS etc. It was sold to me as an 'AMG Line' car so perfectly legit but, I have not added any badges.

Slapping on a false badge is a different matter.

If you RhodiBill had not ignored us at Portsdown Hill the other Saturday, you would have seen the countermeasures I deployed in order not to be tarred with the same brush as the AMG badgers :geek::rolleyes:;):D

Perhaps Russ might post the pics he took :D:D

I didn't come down on the up train, me no daft :geek::rolleyes:;):D:cool::cool:

I do drive an AMG Line version, it was bought as a tug, so is diseasel :geek::D

This is only valid if the AMG badging was added retrospectively.

Its MB's fault, they should have sold the AMG line cars as Sport.

It is all a load of nonsense - my facelift has the AMG bling and some extra HP & Nm so they call it "AMG Line" to differentiate it from the pre-facelift and charge more......

I have the opposite problem. I'd like to take the 'SL400' badge off to make a nice clean rear end but I'll be accused of trying to pass it off as a SL500 :(.

Malcolm's car has AMG body kit and SL65 AMG wheels but has no badging. Nothing at all. Only the reg plate gives away that it's an SL500.
Is it pretending to be something it's not? Maybe but it's not announcing it blatantly with a bodgy aftermarket AMG badge.
