Problem with a thread like this is that I find myself going out hoping to see something truly hideous :)
That's why it's here :D way too easy to find them unfortunately :p

Also the reverse of wrong badging can also be naff. Removing the badges to hide the fact you're driving a diesel or lower model kids nobody either. I recently saw a debadged SL showing a number plate with three letters and 500. My car check shows its a 350. Perhaps he already had the plate off his Fiat

In the UK de-badging tends to be the base model whereas in Europe they de-badge the range toppers.

I think it was the last of the current series of "The Grand Tour" who did a piece on your social standing based on letters on the back of you car. It really was a thing in the UK in the 70's and 80's, no one in lane 3 of the motorway would pull over for a car behind if it didn't have front fogs or headrests (and I don't mean the skeleton headrests).

De-badging is fine in my book. Unless you put a numberplate on like above to try and convince people there is a bigger engine lurking, then it's just sad.

I remember those days. A mate had a BMW 518 that was de-badged but had the front foglights. He tried alsorts to convince people it was a bigger engine. Unfortunately the 1 inch diameter exhaust gave it away. He never learned, only a couple of years ago we met up and had a 520 debadged as per. I parked my S350 right next to him :geek::p:cool:

I didn't care what I had as a co car as it wasn't mine, just a mile muncher as I was the highest mileage driver in the co. Every time it came to change, which was approx 18 monthly, I was given reams of lists of cars in the 'bracket' I was allowed. I always sent it back with 'front foglights, 4 wheels, steering wheel' scrawled across the front page.

I had the W221 and the current W166 de-badged, as they look better. Plus the W166 had an 'AMG' on it, which it ain't and I wasn't going to have the p1ss taken by you lot :p:D:cool:

I got involved in a heated discussion on this ---- I'd like to de-badge mine - not because I want to pretend to be anything else but because I prefer the clean look. I'm stuck with SL400 on the back so people don't think I'm faking it. HOWEVER, how many people in the UK know the SL, let alone, the difference between a 400 & 500?

They don't even know the difference between an SL and an SLK.
Anyway, it's not like any SL needs to blag it.

My daughter's SLK200 is debadged, came like it, should she be putting badges back on it in case people mistake it for an SL400?

My C350 came bebaged, the previous owner bought from mb dealer and paid extra for them to debag.

De-badging is free. When I collected my brand new W221 it still had the badges on it as they unveiled it from under the black cover. Quickly had them taken off in the showroom.

My W166 didn't have them fitted at the factory, again a no charge option.

A woman driving a car with one exhaust is not likely to be suspected of trying to fool people....:)

Oh there are many MB drivers that are quite touchy about badging - hence this thread:geek:
