For me debadging is a pretty meh decision. If someone feels their car looks better that's their choice, but badging it as something it isn't is at best someone poking fun and at worst a deliberate attempt to mislead so as to command a higher selling price. In the middle is the to55er who wants others to think he has something more special than the base poverty spec model it is.

It makes life a little easier when polishing, or maybe just mine?

Brabus G-Wagon... spoiler is a good option, keeping the back end down on a G-Wagon is tough...

The spoiler is useful for keeping the rear window clear. Without it, on a wet day the rear wash wipe will be on almost constantly, its really not about keeping the back end down on a big 4x4

I’d be interested in seeing the wind tunnel tests on that... I believe it is purely for fashion. I’ve not found I’ve required a spoiler when off roading

I had a spoiler on my Mark 1 Fiesta that fitted below the rear window and made a big difference in keeping the rear window clean. The spray was kept below the spoiler by the airflow. I can’t see how having a spoiler on the roof would keep spray off of the rear window. o_O

Exactly my experience.
The spoiler dictates the break away point for the airflow. Anything below it will get covered in dirt from below whilst anything above remains clean from clean air flowing over the top.

On some cars the spoiler actually hinders performance.
Wind tunnel tests of the 1990s Mazda RX7 showed the rear spoiler did nothing at all to improve airflow or downforce but added weight.

I had a toyota hilux surf 2nd generation with no roof spoiler for several years, then I changed it up to a top of the range 3rd gen model which had the roof spoiler, and found a marked difference in the need to wash/wipe the rear window while driving ( on road ) on wet days. There may have been other factors at play but as the basic vehicle shape was not radically different, and both had mudflaps, I put this down to the spoiler doing something to airflows over the rear window. No idea what a wind tunnel would show, and no scientific input, purely personal experience.

I suspect that the Toyota had a wind deflector to deflect air down over the screen as opposed to a spoiler that deflects air upward.

Yep - designed to deflect air down over the rear glass. A normal spoiler will make the rear screen much dirtier than none at all.

There isn’t a cure, you just buy more of them (or like me they follow you home). :)
