Biggest complaint I have about the 7G (other than it being a real pain shifting) is that it revs the engine to high, 60mph at about 2000rpm is way too high IMHO. I would have thought the 7G would be used such that 7th and even 6th would be overdrive gears. I also quite often have to click the steering paddles to knock it into 6th/7th as it tends to hold onto the wrong gear.

Stop/Start on the V8 would make them a lot more economical, but lovely motors, small highly strung or big lazy lumps... apart from the cost, Id recommend anyone to take the V8 over a 4/6.
My 7G box has the revs at 1,600 at 70mph

From memory, the 500 has a flat torque curve of 460NM from around 2000rpm, but Im sure that tootiling around at 60mph wouldnt need 460NM of torque!

That could be your problem I have 540NM.

I've just checked my W211 brochure and the E500 has 530nm between 2,800 & 4,800 mine is between 1,600 & 2,400. The E500 does have 388hp rather than my 224hp though...

More impressed with the ability to drive at 50mph than the avg MPG, though that's also impressive.

One day I hope to be able to drive at a constant 50mph on a dual carrigeway for more than 4 seconds at a time.

There,,just shows what can be done,,you will save much more than the fuel cost,,as the running gear on the car will last longer and you will need less frequent brake component replacements,,tyres as well if you like

Where in Dorset

Malcom,
I have recently bought a W208 320 CLK, can you suggest an independant garage in Dorset to look after it? I live near Sherborne and drive to Exeter three days a week, so anywhere near me would be ideal.

Hope you can help
