The Mercedes-Benz Acadamy and dealer training course

First of all; hi I'm new! :) I'm only 14 so I haven't got a car yet but I have driven a A-Class at Mercedes-Benz world! It was very cool! Also, I've always had a interest in cars and technology and I've always thought Mercs are cool! Now, on to the point of the post...

I was at the London Careers Show 2008 in the ExCel yesterday and Mercedes-Benz where there and I looked at information on Apprenticeships training with Mercedes dealers and going to the Mercedes-Benz Acadamy... Looks cool to me as I can combine my interest in cars with my interest of computers in a career :)

I wanted to ask if anyone on this forum done this course? Do you recommend it? Was it a good experience?

Hi There MOD (Maybe One Day).

The apprenticeships from MB are very Good indeed. I did mine many years ago, and the whole structure has changed now and i think is very good. You will be based at the dealership, Spend time away on block release for you college part of the training and learn the ropes hands on at the dealership. Where abouts in london are you based?

The trade is becoming a lot more IT based, The diagnostics and computers that operate them have become very advanced very quickly.

Its great to see someone as young as your self showing a keen interest.

One word of caution however. At present I dont know many Rich Technicians So I dont think Its the best career choice if you inteed to be a very rich man. It is not a bad career to be in At all, but wont make you a millionaire.

Good luck Mate
Regards Ellsy Tanners.

Hi Ellsy Tanners! Thanks for the quick and positive reply! :)

Glad to know it's good! :)

I know I won't be rich but I'll probably make some software as a hobby, I am learning C at the moment and I plan to use it for making iPhone apps for the App Store, it's possible to make quite a bit of cash from that... Even if I become rich from that (as some have!) I would still do the Mercedes-Benz apprenticeship because it's something I think would be fun and something I would be good at :)

EDIT: Also, as a response to your question, I live in South East London.

firstly welcome to the forum

MB have one of the best apprentice schemes, and as a lad interested in the electronics side, you will be in demand when you have finished.

goodluck !

on the progammng side there would be a market for the code to get nokia symbian 60 phones toconnect with the MB bluetooth puck.

Cool!

This is sounding more and more appealing! :)

As for your Symbian problem, I can't much yet ad I'm just learning ATM... I'm gonna study the Doom engine later, though, should be interesting! :)

Hi MOD.

I've just finished college this year (I'm 18) doing a BND in IT. To be honest, it didn't teach me much and I wish I'd gotten an apprenticship with Volvo but my application was unsucsessful.

I wish I'd known there was a career day at ExCel, I'd have got down there and taken a look!

Good luck buddy!

Stu.

I didn't think the IT courses looked that great when I looked at them, looks like I was right!

Thanks! :)
