Update, have had to postpone Mot until 13:30. She didn't start this morning. Combination of battery being too low and potentially still more contaminated diesel in the tank. I may be using a booster for a little while longer until all the contaminated diesel has gone.
I'm still positive

Thank you. It's been a really tough year and she has really challenged me and pushed my limits further than ever. I have learned so much about her and how she works.
Thank you again.

Whoops! - Probably worth it to get a checklist of what needs doing.

Can't the wheel bearings atleast be tightened up pretty easily for free?

Really? On my vehicle?

I assumed they were all the same... This video is for a W211 which I believe is your age of car and it looks exactly the same as my W124 - I watched a mechanic do this and it took him 15 minutes or so (before the days I DIYd such stuff)

Also what is the ball joint - it says front and rear - if it's front balljoint that's 10€ for the part and 30mins to 1hr for the job at a garage (more involved than the bearing as needs special tools) and then the brake shouldn't be too hard to remove pads and spray everything with brake cleaner and grease what you can and hope it stops binding without rebuilding it all completely.

You could also lower the light yourself (I have also done this) by using chalk and a wall.

So if money's tight maybe you could have all but the levelling light sorted for 10€ part and maybe 1h labour or even none if you know how to do it. Got to be worth fixing it for that (assuming a headlight leveller is something stupid like 500€ or so!)

Wheel bearings are taper roller. They are adjustable, and it's an easy job.
Headlamp beam adjustment is also a straightforward job,
And the front brake binding should be a simple strip down and clean up.
The above three items will not cost you, except time.

Is your's an Estate? The saloons didn't have headlamp levelling, as I recall. This could also be a simple job - depending what has failed.

Isn't it "Season 5" next year...??? :coffee:

I have to say, and this is only my personal opinion, I am surprised that all this work, money and effort was put into an old, obviously un-maintained Diesel with near as dammit a quarter of a million miles on the clock...

Ten out of ten for perseverance if nothing else!

If it's like the 210 the headlight levelling (assuming it's the manual type) is vacuum driven so likely a pipe disconnected or split.
