Well done MB. In so many ways the ultimate two seater for real world everyday use. But very nice valve caps are still an extra!

I still have plastic caps, and this makes it very embarrassing to drive :(

IMHO the best quote comes from the What Car review, where it describes the SL as "The sports car for grown ups". No need to barge around intimidating people - if you want to go fast (and it is safe to do so), then you can

The point was made in another thread that very few accidents are purely attribuatable to speed. I believe that is true.

Good drivers who drive quickly will compensate for the behaviours of others - it is implicit in being a good driver. The "others" generally don't even know that someone else has just prevented their folly from becoming a crash (I do dislike the word accident).

The problems come when bad drivers who drive quickly fail to take account of other road users (implicit in being a bad driver). Then the crashes occur, and speed is blamed.

There was speed in both cases. The difference was the competence of the driver.

Final point - nice reading on your temperature gauge @ Mach 1.2 Malcolm! :):)

For me it does not add up - perhaps someone can explain it to me.

Sold 150,000 of this latest SL since it was introduced in spring 2008.

Total SL sales in excess of 600,000 units since 1954.

It took 54 years to sell 450,000+ units; and yet

it ONLY TOOK 6 months to sell 150,000 units. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT ?????????????

Can anyone explain it ??????????????

The gist I get from reading it is that they have sold 150,000 230s. That's the fifth generation isn't it? Whether it's a new updated one or the old dinosaur like mine (and Malcolms).

Not wanting to teach you how to suck eggs, but there was the W198, W113, R107, R129 & R230 - all 5 generations.

I think it means that 150,000 people have said that the would or will buy one of the new versions. They have sold 20 at MB in Exeter.

There are two write ups there and they both cannot be wrong
