yes, within the next 3 to 5 yrs. you will be detected if exceeding the speed limit anywhere in the uk on "a roads" and motorways.. the lead in to the system will be based on travel charging with the speeding add on comming some time later. with the exception of the mountain roads in the isle of man and the autobahn in germany, thats it, your jeramy clarkson reccomended speed machine will be redundant, sorry jeramy the anorachs win. we all know that with modern cars, speed in responsible hands out in the sticks is perfectly safe, but the new system will be based on revenue not common sense. you will still have the real gobo's who drink drive and speed in built up areas etc, but mr responsible will pick up the tab as usual. we older ones are lucky, most of us will have done our speeding, driven to london from glasgow without touching the car in front and behind, caught fish in the clyde estuary, seen old people being noticed, faught with fists instead of knives, only spent the money we had earned. you can tell me i am a miserable sod, but you cannot tell me i am wrong. herbiemercman.

hi helen, you are right, i am a miserable sod at the moment.
i think i am watching too much news on tv.
the poloticians who should be setting an example are ripping us off at the worst possible time since the last war, i also cannot get my head around how they reward failure, bank manager ruins thousands of people's lives and gets a £750K pension.
people who have clocked on and saved for a pension have lost everything, sorry for my moaning, i know the club is about cars, however the people who look after things, like their cars, and this is far more green than building new cars, will come under political pressure to get rid of them.
i am sorry i am a misserable sod, i think it is just temporary, but i think winston churchill once said "the further back you can look the easier it is to look forward". herbiemercman.

The message is clear, speed on the B roads. Wait a second, that is more dangerous than speeding on the A roads.

What sort of message are the goverment sending us?

Obey the law.

Perhaps we shall all learn to buy cars for sensible reasons. Perhaps carmakers will learn to make cars fit for the purpose (to be driven in countries with a 70mph speed limit). No more ludicrous 6 litre V8s and more.

And perhaps Top Gear will test cars as we drive them, on the public highway, and not like idiots on an airfield. I welcome the day.

Of course it's all about revenue raising! Why else are speed traps always at the bottom of a hill? Or just past the speed limit sign that's hidden by an overhanging branch?

An interesting point about speed and safety. Until about 18 months ago, the Northern Territory here in Australia had no open road speed limit, then a 130km/hr limit was imposed "in the interests of road safety" and the road death toll nearly doubled!

What gets me is they keep going on about lower limits in back streets near schools and towns. - twenty is plenty crap. Well if people were sensible and drove properly in these areas you wouldnt need to stick to twenty is plenty, all the time and could well be slower on occasion.
Trouble is they dont retest or properly educate people.
What we need is a new system. Not just a change of money grabbing directors running GB plc.

I don't know about the bit in bold, its a huge breach of civil liberties and really too expensive to impliment. Given this government this time next year will be gone, it won't happen.

Better drive to Ollys GTG at over 120mph as I don't get down south very often :D

Even when cars become fully electric, there is no reason for GPS road pricing as

1. Electicity used to recharge cars could be taxed more (given the amnt of power needed to recharge an electric car its unfeasable to do it at home, petrol stations will become charging points).
2. The batteries themselves could be taxed to buggery, like petrol, so even if power is cheap, the container for the power won't be.
3. If we go the fuel cell route, H2 will be taxed like petrol

You see, road pricing etc and multiple cameras are not needed for road pricing, but there for more sinister reasons like surveillence and getting sneaky fines. The collection of road based revenue using camera/GPS will be very expensive and taxing (in methods 1,2,3) will always yeild more

Speed is only one part of the equation that kills.

Inattentiveness, inappropriate speed (rain, slow, narrow and windy streets, etc) is the main problem.

The youngsters pass their test and think they can drive. It is a piece of paper that identifies that you can control that potential lethal weapon to a competent level.

Once that piece of paper is in hand and you get your first car THEN YOU START TO LEARN TO DRIVE.

Everything nowadays is money making and yes if a penny can be made charging for this/that then they will try. If where I live had buses, when required and to/from my travel points and cheaper that the current rip-off prices then I would seriously consider using them.

Both severn crossings are £5.40 for cars travelling into Wales and twice now the coin bins have stung me for a missing 20p (I counted the right amount out twice). This is a form of road pricing that has been in for years.

Watch the camera van on the new crossing in the 50 zone before the tolls. LOOK OUT for the idiots who are all over the road, doing less than 50, hunting for change in their pockets/wallets/purses or undecided which toll booth to go to. THESE ARE THE ACCIDENTS WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!

People walking have to use the streets as there are many towns without pavements, it cost me nothing to stop and let them cross safely.

Teach people not to run into the street :shock: I am very surprised to hear you make a statement like that:shock:

Okay, how about, teach people not to run/walk in front of cars. If there's no paths, teach people how to be sensible and not use the blame culture to blame the drivers all of the time.
