hi hope I'm in the right section .looking at the thermostat for our model .mercedes will only sell the complete housing .but have sourced a separate thermostat and temp sensor from autodoc looks like the thermostats just locks on to 2 ears in the housing not to sure about the temp sensors does that allso come out of the housing .why pay there ridiculous price if anyone else has gone down this route please advise thanks

I'm not sure the temp sensor (or it might be a little probe heater element) can be removed? If you do find out how to do it, please update this thread as it will be useful to others.


You should also buy a new gasket, which is £16 from Merc I believe or £11.99 for an aftermarket one from eBay (if it is part number A6422010780 for the gasket).

People have sometimes reported problems with aftermarket thermostats, so there is a tendency to just stump up the £150 or whatever rip off price the Merc one is, but it does come with a new gasket included.

Do not be so harsh on genuine parts buddy. You will find that non genuine don't fit well with mercs in the long run.

as posted elsewhere, if the thermostat is fairly easy to change, you can take a chance with aftermarket. If it's a week-end of a job though, OE is usually the way to go. ;)

Just like to thank you all for your thoughts on this matter.have sourced the vemo thermostat for the cls350cdi part no v30_99-0201 so if this works will post again if not will have to purchase the complete housing 154 pound read some good reviews about vemo products once again thanks
