All very interesting, but do they do something to make BMW indicators work?

The Bimmercode App is fantastic used it many times on the 440 and a few other workmates BM`s. For around £55 for the App and Bluetooth dongle it is a no brainer for those wanting to personalise their car.

as electronics pervade every part of modern life (and the software is written by younger and younger idiots, before they ever got to grow up and experience how the world can be), the need to be able to tune the software to how you want it is becoming more and more important... (but they are trying to make it harder and harder to achieve) great tools that allows owners to put things right is more and more relevant...

auto box software is mostly junk that always gets it wrong,
stop start is there to wear out your car and increase the damage to the planet, (thus turning it off is essential),
3 flash indicators should be 5,
folding mirrors should remain folded (why else did I turn them in on a country lane ?)
the actual digital speedo should be available, as should tyre temp display etc. etc.

tools such as these allow you to take back some control and their use needs to be more prevalent and shared (Mercedes closed system makes it more difficult and will cause them to lose market share)

Funnily enough I have none of those toys and manage just fine.
Other half a car has them but I just get in and drive.
I don't care if the indicators flash three times or 5 or if the mirrors fold out at 5kmh (or even if they don't or even if they don't fold at all), and digital speed read out? Why would I even be bothered when theres a nice big round dial thingy with a needle that tells me at a glance how fast I'm going?
These things are largely just marketing gimmicks in my opinion. Will the fact I can or cannot customise them affect my decision about which car I buy? No. I'm more interested in how it drives. Toys are novelties and it doesn't take long for the novelty to wear off and settings just to get left however they were set last (often defaults).
I think you're overplaying the importance of fiddling with trivial settings and I personally would prefer MB spent their investment money getting the basics right: Handling, comfort, performance, economy, reliability and rust (or lack thereof).
