It is lively, playful and cheap as chips to run. 46mpg driving into central glasgow today.

With winter tyres its ride is soft. Once on summer tyres I will charge about again. I love this car, its fabulous, it may well be the finest car money can buy:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Do you love your car Steve, Peter loves his and I love mine so they can all live happily there after :D:D:D

Peter, Malcolm

you both need to drive one of these and here

I have never been a big fan of estate cars, but the 204 estate is one that has changed my opinion. I really like them, especially the 63 version;)

But........... maybe it's me, I always get out of a C class thinking, this isn't as comfortable as my old W210 and that has always stopped me ever looking to replace my old E Class with a C.

I will rock up to a GTG, we will all have a big dinner and extol the virtues of our Mercedes benz motor cars.

Ps I've driven Peters car, well not his, but one like it. They are a lot better than the 63 engined cars which really are a bit limp until they are rev'd. I've not driven a CL, driven the S class, I liked that.

Back to the OPs question.

If looking at a CLS320cdi. They can give issues with a swirl flap motor failing or the mechanism, bearings can go and the 7g valve block can go. All cost a fair bit to fix. They are however fast, frugal, capable and comfortable. Great cars.

Avoid the 63 one, the engines are unreliable and slow and thirsty compared to the 55k which is reliable and comes with 5g. The 500's are fine and drive through 7g. There are mixed reports if 7g is good. Some like it, some hate it.

To a fair extent the car does have to be over a certain size for the comfort and the 210 is in the middle here, they were lovely cars

It isn't as comfortable. The seats are ok, but not as comfy for a very long haul as the E class but you only really notice this after 8 continuous hours. Neither are the 212s seats up to much.

The handling and agility is a good notch up....and space is ok.

For real comfort, you want an S class. My Dad has one, its proper comfy

Oh the S class is in a different league. My bro-in-law had a W124 S500 and I was smitten. The power, the unashamed luxury made having a Merc a must for me. I couldn't wait to chop in my old Sierra Cosworth and finally got my hands on a W210 as an S class was out of my price range.

Got my eye on a W211 E55 next as I can't go through life never having owned a V8.
