E55 AMG This is what I'm looking for what do Others think, i am disabled and it would be handy for the wheelchair, although i use my stick for a couple of steps, wife is main driver we only do about 4000 per year she thinks they look like a Hurst estates but See's the need for a estate car for us i would have the odd go, i need something different to make the days go QUICKER, first i would have it debadged as i love the unassuming nature of these cars I have a e300 saloon diesel which makes shopping a bit of a hassle, and seeing as diesel is dearer than petrol running costs not important as i have a good indi, but i know they can cost big bucks, I know what to look out for on the 210 re rust ...or am i just going down the rust route again and should i look for something newer, anyone had a E500 are they as good as the AMG.

regards Mark.

The thing to look out for now is the road tax on post March/April 2001 vehicles.

I believe that the current E500 has a higher power output as the non-supercharged E55 engine - 388 hp as opposed to 349.

A good E500 W211 IMO is a better bet than a W210 E55. It is newer in design, safer in an accident. Any VED issues with an older E55 cs E500 will be clawed back in the cheaper services and insurance for the non AMG newer car.

A nice 2004 onwards W211 E500 will be fairly cheap, have heaps of life left in it, won't rust as its galvanised, be a more modern driving experience but still a hoot of fun.

I pefer the 500, mainly because its a 2005 car so will be top notch reliabilty wise. from end 2003 the Mercs got significantly better again (and galvanisesd). The E500 you found also a much better specification than the E320 and in the E500 you selected its the newer 388bhp engine.

The E320 is no slouch but won't be much if at all lighter on fuel than the E500 you sourced as its quite an "old tech" engine. The E500 will be a flying machine. Value wise the E320 is terrific, but that E500 must have been £60k new.
