Im thinking of buy ing an A190 or A160 or perhaps the A170 CDI i just wondered if anyone had any recommendations and also any known faults to look out for it will probably be 1999-2000 model, cheers
If you go to Derwent in Bradford, my previous car, a silver A140 Elegance might still be on the forecourt. It's YD51 KVF and was mint with 11,000 miles on it when I handed it over.
I had a 1999 model before that. Look out for knocking noises from the front wheels. On my 1999er it was the roll bar bushes (or so I was told) and I also had the rattling steering column replaced, fortunately, both repairs were done free under warranty.
I would strongly recommend you go for the facelift model if you can, the niggles seem to have been sorted out by then.
Echo the comments of "go for a facelift if you can".
We traded in my wifes 1999 A170 last December for a 6 month old A190.
The difference in build quality between the two is significant.....no rattles, clonks and shabby dashboard anymore.
Our A170 had a number of build quality problems during its life with us, which culminated in the ACS gearbox packing up, due to some solenoids failing....these were replaced under warranty with 2 weeks left to run...had it been out of warranty it would have cost nearly £900.00.
Our new A190 has been trouble free so far...touch wood.
I have a 1999 A170 CDI and agree with all the above - mine has also had the steering column replaced at 80,000 miles, Its a known fault due to being a conversion from a left hand drive car.
Go for a facelift (slightly different front bumper, 'clearer' headlights). They are not easy to seperate unless you see old and new beside each other
I would recommend the A170 (500 miles on a tank). I think the facelift arrived in either 200 or 2001
