Hi All,

i am shortly expecting to be in the market for a new car as just selling my FTO ( see attached image) It was my boyhood car and time to grow up =)

I like the look of Mercedes-Benz C Class and was looking to explore my options.

I am leaning towards the C180K SE 3dr Auto Sport Coupe 1.8, I do not do very many miles probably around 3/5k a year so would like the most economic for smaller runs.

Also worth mentioning i have mechanics in my extended family so unlikely to service the car through dealers

I am saving for a wedding so cannot justify splashing out, i have a budget of up to £3K

Ideally i want the following:
Under 100k Mileage
Face lift Model
Panoramic Roof
Leather interior

Am i being realistic? if not is it worth going down the non-facelift models (2001-2004) but i hear that they may have been built with inferior parts and suffer badly from rust.

Is there any known design faults with the C Class, or anything major i should keep an eye out for when looking to buy my first c class?

Also what are the normal servicing costs?

Any pointers or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

i have to admit, i dont like the coupe. i believe it should never have reached production. it was MB trying to build a hatchback. and failing.

MB make brilliant saloons and estates, and even the coupes are great ( the ones that have a proper boot (CL, SL etc) rather than the hatchback)

to me, the side profile is wrong and the rear end looks hideous. HOWEVER that is merely my opinion.

mileage is pretty irrelavant on MB's. there are cars on here similar to mine with 2 and 3 times the mileage mine has, and are no worse for it!

as has been said, rust is the big issue with them. also check that everything works. also, have a drive of a saloon, if one comes up witth the right spec. looks aside, i gather theyre quieter and more comfortable to ride in than the coupe. i cant comment on this as ive always had saloons.

Have you thought about a 209 CLK?
A proper coupe and miles better looking than the c-class coupe/hatchback. :D

Or what about an older 208 CLK? One of the best looking cars Merc has ever built imo.

TBH, they are all great cars, so good luck with the purchase.
