And why not may I ask

Because its a beautiful car and it will drive like a C class but trimmed like an S class.

Simply wonderful. I'm getting one some day and I will tell you its the finest car money can buy:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Edit, I've convinced myself that there is no finer car than a CLS SB. Not even the C class estate. Its the second finest car...followed by an S350cdi Bluetech...LOL!!!!!

I am extremely biased mate. Extremely. All rationality and common sense goes out the door when I think about a CLS SB. Really.

I was in York yesterday, cleaning cars today. I really see myself in one.

I have to say it again, I want a CLS SB...I will take ALL the extra OT at my work to get the money together to get one.

2017 '17' Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi ST Line X 180 (sorry)
for the people that dont see the use for such a car, i can explain it. it is, simply, a CLS for people that WANTED a CLS but had to make do with a 211/212 or even 203/204 estate because they have dogs/kids etc.

even I would consider one! i do like the CLS anyhow, even though theres been no manual variant, so far

Try driving a Navigator..!!!

I do not know what one of those is,,,,I had to reverse twice on the main road leaving Lyme when a bus came the other way, always braking through drivers coming the other way drive too fast cannot keep to their own side of the road on the bends.

You need a nice compact car like a C class estate.

However, as much as I really love its compactness its getting replaced by the CLS SB as I just love looking at them. All rationality and sane thinking going out the door. I will have a CLS SB 250cdi sport spec. I will have one.

So you've had three little cars. They have a lot going. I actually love this little C class, so tempted to keep it along with the CLS SB when I get it and I can post about two wonderful estate cars

Cough *estate/hearse* cough ...

I really like the CLS but this is just NOT pretty even in AMG guise. It does make me smile how it's basically an estate version of the car but 'OH NO' Mercedes must call it a "shooting brake" and provide the etimology of where its roots are set to justify the name.

Most amusing how the advertising/sales machine works, its almost like "we certainly can't call it an estate version of the CLS it has to be more grand than that ... we're adding thousands to the price so must warrant it with a suitable name tag ...

I really don't see the appeal ... obviously ...

Pete

You can look at any car like this though.

The one car I simply don't get is a saloon.

A small hot hatch I get, it is young, nippy, fun and economical.

A coupe I get, it looks great, and again feels young and more like a luxury than a tool.

A cabriolet I get, some people like the wind in their hair, some just like to be seen. I don't like them but I get it.

A 4x4 I get, practical and they can be very nice to drive, if not a bit thirsty.

An estate I get, loads of space and actually feels a bit younger than a saloon, you can throw your bike in the back, your surfboard, your dog, your kids etc. etc.

A saloon I just don't get at all. It always looks pants compared with the coupe, it has less space than the estate and it just makes me think of sales rep in a company car I can see the boss saying it now "No you can't have a coupe it is the wrong image and I am not paying £30 a month more for the estate, and as for a cab you're having a mid life crisis."

We all view cars very differently, I never get the cars other people buy, but do understand we only need to like them to get us buying them.

I do not know how any household can function without a hatch or estate car in the family

I've only had saloon cars until very recently. If it wouldn't go in the back with the rear seats folded forward, I borrowed my dad's Granada MKII estate ....... very little that won't fit in the back of them. ;)

As big as this R Class is, there's not the room in the 'boot' to stow all the bits & pieces that could easily be hidden away out of sight behind the spare wheel or in proper stowage lockers in the boot of a saloon. (the same as any other 'estate')

..... and a saloon tends to give less road noise than a hatch/estate, because the load area is separate to the driver/passengers

Yes I agree that noise and heating can let estate cars down a bit, the same with a soft top, I was going to let my V70R go until I needed to buy a long piece of wood

I love estate cars....

The saloons have one plus. Four fours which IMHO look better than two door cars (not a coupe fan) and the second plus is a lockable boot which completely conceals items in the boot and saloons are more refined as the cabin is more isolated from the back wheels.
