I believe they are made out of Marmite

There will be mixed views I'm sure, but I did look at buying one a few years ago, however whilst they are ok, it left me feeling a bit flat in response to it, so I went for the GL, which shares much of the platform, but feels much more rounded, and has significantly more road presence than the R-Class.

I had mine for nearly 7 years. It was a great tow car ..... I liked it. And when people asked you what car you drove & answered R Class Merc, the replay was almost always .... A what?

But they were obviously not very popular.

They're a rare sight ;) If you own one, you can almost guarantee that yours will be the only R Class on car park :D
It was last week , I said to Mrs Wighty "that's an R Class there " , she said "A What?" :D

I think they look a bit american, cant decide weather i like it or not! They seem quite good value for money for the level of comfort you get and the ammount of space!

He probably looks a bit 'iffy' in any motor :geek::rolleyes::cool:;)

The R is a practical family and tow car, understated. A few around this neck of the woods.
@Cole@MBS used to have one as a company car IIRC

It’s MrsCraig who drives it usually.

Looks wise, it’s definitely got road presence. Enormous inside & out of LWB, it’s comparable to my mate’s Defender 110 but due to the smooth lines it gives the feel of a Zafira. Until you park next to one...

I rather like the front end actually, it’s grown on me somewhat. Didn’t like the silly triangular sidelights to start with though. Back end is good looking and flows nicely.

The thing is, compare it against an Espace or Grand Voyager and you’ll see what I mean.

They were definitely designed for the States I think, and probably stack up pretty well against the competition there, but in the UK (and probably most of Europe) it was really a car without a market. Having said that, I used to drive a GL which was a tank without a market and mostly impractical in the UK, so what do I know :)

a great car, is one you like, and are happy with, and an even greater one is one that keeps going and stays away from the stealers.

Remind me of American SUV's, I'd rather own an estate, but they do look roomy.
