As far as I'm aware the only proper diesel AMG ever produced was the W203 C30 CDi based on the OM612 engine.
Every other AMG was and currently is petrol powered.
The C30 AMG is very rare and was dropped due to poor sales.

Mercedes and BMW et al have created a lot of confusion by using their motorsport derivative branding ie AMG and M Power for cosmetic and mechanical upgrades on run of the mill production cars, a very good marketing, sales and profit exercise but very confusing nevertheless. You will know when you have a real AMG there is a very high financial threshold to cross to own one of these cars

Yes Rory, but my understanding was that you have a Generic range of MB cars. IE- W201, W211,W212, W213 ect, then you have a range of engines available, 200,250,300, 350 etc, next a range of interior fittings, and finally AMG, ( or variations ) which is presumably the pinnacle , Top-of-the- Range model? I'm not too familiar with all the possible permutation's and variations within the brand, and it can be confusing. I should have been clearer when I mentioned the "AMG250",,, as in E Class 250, AMG. which would have been a more exact description. but I live and learn. :):):)

AMG Line. It’s like buying an Audi A4 S Line, the same trim level as an S4 / RS4, but emphatically not an S4/ RS4.

It's only body styling bits Jim, front and rear bumper, side skirts and that sort of thing. Not enough to slap a badge on it :D

The real ethos of AMG has always been about increased performance and uprated handling and brakes.
Coupled with this they also produced trim and styling elements, the most outrageous of which were the CLK GTR and widebody kits for the 560SEC. Many of the AMG body kits are far more subtle such as found on our r230 (which is not an AMG but would pass for one visually with the addition of quad exhaust tips especially given it has wheels from an SL65).

So in essence our r230 is similar to the "AMG" line cars that MB marketing are producing. It's not an AMG but it looks like one.

So latest on purchase of the 2013 MB E class 250 ( with AMG wheel's) Its gone. I called them first thing on Tuesday morning...gone !!. But he said, we have another one, it's a 2014 E Class 220, with 130'000 Miles,if you would like to take a look?? So off I went, had a look and took it for a teste drive. Was impressed, full MB service history everything it needed it got ( inc Trans fluid changes) interior perfect, still original spare wheel, no "Artico" problems.
Some details from the VIN:-
Catalog MB201810
Model 212.002 ( ref. this .002. When I connect my iCarsoft to the engine, it scrolls through all the permutations, incl "002" My present MB is .005. so I take it that is this is the Nr iCarsoft is looking for, and this is its location? )
Name E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition,
M - engine: 651924 32 110068 651.924 M651 D22 DIESEL ENGINE R4 OM651 D 22 LL
GA - Automatic : 722908 07 747099 722.908 W 7 C 700 (NICHT FUER / NOT FOR
VAN/G-CLASS) 7-SPEED А W7C700 NOT FOR MircobusА
So what are your thought's??? No mention of anything relating to timing chain anywhere in the service history, but no rattling on cold startup when I drove it. And it drives like a dream. And thats saying something,,,the present E200 drives like like a dream too, and TBH, it would not have crossed my mind to change it ( actually, the plan was NOT to change it, at least for a good nr of years...) if i had not seen the E250 Estate .....and even now I have niggles:(,,,but the hook is well in and the 220 will win out. ( that is unless I get some extremely negative feed back on this particular model? )
Thanks for your advice and help.:D

2005 CL500.
E220d...good. I had to work hard from the traffic lights recently not to be embarrassed by one. The other driver was a tit though...he didn't half take it thick...wanted me to pull over at the next set of lights.

And yours is a CL500??? WOW, thats saying something!!! TBH, at this stage in my life, speed for the sake of speed, is not high on the list of priorities,,and I've heard people say that the E200 is a shade underpowered, but it was fine for me... anytime I "tickled " the accelerator it reaponded well,,,but having said that, I would not mind having an extra bit of power on tap if I ever needed it either .:)

What mileage is your E200 Jim ? If it’s less than 130,000 it sounds like you are swapping a problem free E200 for a unknown high mileage car
