Thread Stripped

Hi All,

One of my rear threads in the hub has gone. Hence on 4 bolts. I know this isnt a problem for now,but anyone know how i can get this sorted without replacing the whole hub??

Can the thread be retapped, maybe id have to use a wider threaded bolt..More importantly, who could do this??

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you can insert a Heliciol into the stripped thread and make it stronger than before.

If not, most Engine rabuild places will do it, but you'll have to take the hub to them.

No i dont mind getting stuck in! So where can i get these helicoils, would halfords or motor factors keep them??

I know the hub isnt gonna be a huge amount, but i assume the work involved is going to be the killer.
Im not sure id feel confident doing it myself, unless it is straightforward?

you got the haynes manual or the CDs Jay?

if not drop me a line and I'll send you copies of the relevant bits

it doesn't look like too big a job and could probably be seen as a good excuse to replace the handbrake shoes and rear disks/pads
